Apparently, inas part of a freshman requirement for the city college he attended, all male students took a swim class at the YMCA. He remembers the instructor telling them something about it being more sanitary that way. Was his swim teacher some pervy old dude?

This isn't a joke or a hoax. I have heard from several reliable, independent sources that prior to nudity was mandatory in Duluth's junior-high swim classes. The classes weren't co-ed, of course; there were separate classes for boys and girls.

After watching swim team meets between other schools, I tried out for our high school swim team I attended Harrison High School in Chicago from and what do you know, I made it! As I relive this memory it also talks to how swimming has changed in six decades and all for the better. I went to my first practice session in our swimming pool and I saw no one wearing a bathing suit.
